ExxonMobil ready for Fawley protestsLONDON (ICIS news)--ExxonMobil Corp is not concerned that supplies to its Fawley refinery in Hampshire, UK, will be disrupted when UK hauliers protest outside it, the company said on Friday.

"We are aware of media reports of potential fuel protests, and have seen the list of sites at which protests are planned on the Transaction 2007 website,” a spokewoman said in a statement.

“We are monitoring the situation, and have no reason to believe supplies will be disrupted,” she added.

The company said ExxonMobil was confident that the police will have appropriate arrangements in place for the Saturday protest to deal with any incidents.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokeswoman said police would allow the protest to continue as long as it did not impede a public highway or cause public order problems.

The Fawley site produces 125,000 tonnes/year of methyl tertiary butyl ether, 95,000 tonnes/year of butyl rubber, 125,000 tonnes/year of ethylene, 135,000 tonnes/year of methyl ethyl ketone and 100,000 tonnes/year of propylene.

Transaction 2007 said Fawley would be one of five refinery sites targeted in the Saturday protests – the others are Jarrow, Purfleet, Cardiff and Immingham Refinery.

The Immigham refinery site houses ConocoPhilips aromatics plant, biodiesel Greenergy International Ltd and propylene producer Lindsey Oil Refinery Ltd.

Transaction 2007 is the same group that organised farmers and haulage contractors in 2000 into major protests, including the blockading of refineries, which saw the country's road transport network grind to a halt.
