BUCHAREST (ICIS news)--INEOS NOVA has signed a letter of intent with Romanian chemical company SEEA Polymers to build an expandable polystyrene (EPS) plant in Romania, the US-based styrenics producer said on Tuesday.

The plant, to be located on an SEEA plot in Medgidia near Cernavoda, close to the Black Sea, will have a capacity of 100,000 tonnes/year and it is expected to be opened in late 2009.

Europe EPS consumption is projected to continue to grow by more than 10% a year

“This new plant will be located in the heart of one of the highest growth areas for EPS in the world,” said INEOS NOVA Europe managing director Martin Pugh.

“We expect this plant to manufacture a full range of products and be the lowest cost producer of EPS in Europe.”
