LONDON (ICIS news)--Polimeri Europa hopes to start production at its beleaguered high impact polystyrene (HIPS) unit in Feluy in Belgium this weekend or early next week, a company source confirmed on Wednesday.

“We foresee starting up this weekend, or the very beginning of next week,” the source said.

Technical problems brought the HIPS line down in early October.

PS production at Feluy runs at 160,000 tonnes/year, split evenly between general purpose polystyrene (GPPS) and HIPS.

GPPS was not affected by production issues.

Major European PS producers include BASF, INEOS NOVA, Dow and Total Petrochemicals.
