SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Kumho P&B Chemicals, the South Korean producer, will nearly double its bisphenol A (BPA) capacity in mid-April next year by bringing on stream a new unit and expanding its existing line, a company official said on Friday.
The company will replaced its No 1 35,000 tonne/year line at Yeocheon with a new 150,000 tonne/year line, he added. The No 1 unit will be mothballed in mid-April.
The second 125,000 tonne/year line at the same location will undergo a scheduled 20 day maintenance turnaround in mid-April to early-May, the source said.
It will be debottlenecked to 150,000 tonnes/year, he added.
These would nearly double Kumho’s total BPA capacity from 160,000 tonnes/year to 300,000 tonnes/year, the source said.
Key Asian suppliers of BPA include Nan Ya Plastics, Mitsui Chemicals, LG Chem, and Mitsubishi Chemicals.
