SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--BASF-YPC restarted its 110,000 tonne/year 2-ethylehxanol (2-EH) unit at Nanjing in the eastern Jiangsu province on Thursday, a company source said on Friday, as prices hit their lowest level in so far in the fourth quarter.

“This 2-EH unit had been shut down since late November due to a lack of synthetic gas,” the source added.

2-EH was priced down at yuan (CNY) 14,600-14,800/tonne ($1,984-2,011/tonne) ex-tank east China on Friday, compared with Monday’s CNY 15,000-15,150/tonne ex-tank east China.

East China 2-EH had kept rising since early November and reached CNY 15,300-15,400/tonne ex-tank east China in early December.

Thereafter, the sluggish DOP sector had dragged 2-EH down.

The restart of the 2-EH unit of BASF-YPC will help to relieve supply in China, traders said.
