SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Idemitsu Kosan, Japan’s third largest olefins producer, is currently running its cracker in Ichihara at 50% following some mechanical troubles, a company source said on Friday.

The 374,000 tonne/year cracker in Ichihara, Chiba prefecture, experienced technical problems on 28 December and operating rates were subsequently reduced, market sources said.

They added that the plant was shut for eight to 10 days, but this was disputed by the company source.

The producer planned to raise the operating rate at the cracker to full capacity by early next week, the company source said.

Idemitsu shut the cracker in end-March 2007 for maintenance, which lasted around 48 days.

Its other 672,000 tonne/year cracker in Tokuyama is operating normally and is scheduled for maintenance in September-October.
