HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Brazil’s flexible-fuel vehicle (FFV) sales in 2007 totalled 2m units, a 40% increase from 1.43m vehicles sold in 2006, industry association Anfavea said on Monday.
FFV sales in December were at 200,686 units, a 25% increase from 161,107 vehicles one year earlier, the association said.
Compared with 196,728 units in November, FFV sales in December rose by 2%, Anfavea said.
FFVs in 2007 accounted for 85.6% of Brazil’s new vehicle sales. That figure is up from 78.1% in 2006, the association said.
FFV sales are a key indicator for Brazil’s hydrous ethanol demand, as these vehicles can run on gasoline or stand-alone hydrous ethanol.
Brazil is the world’s second-largest ethanol producer, after the US, but the leading exporter of the biofuel.
