LONDON (ICIS news)--Perstorp’s oxo-alcohols unit in Stenungsund, Sweden, has just come back on stream after failing on 1 January due to syngas issues, a company source confirmed on Tuesday.
“It took us a little longer than we had expected,” the source said, adding the plant had been initially expected to resume output last weekend.
Perstorp produces 100,000 tonnes/year butanol (both iso and normal) and 125,000 tonnes/year 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) at the site.
Rates at the 65,000 tonne/year dioctyl phthalate (DOP) unit had been reduced as a result of the incident.
Meanwhile, normal butanol supply was finally beginning to ease in the region after months of availability issues which prevented almost all export opportunities from
2-EH availability remained tight, along with downstream plasticizer markets.
Other European producers of oxo-alcohols include Oxea, BASF and Arkema.
