SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--China National Chemical Corp (ChemChina) plans to spend yuan (CNY) 700m ($96.3m) this year on a pilot project to curb emissions at over 10 of its chlor-alkali plants and refineries, a company spokesman said on Wednesday.

The project was part of ChemChina’s target to achieve zero emissions, he said, adding that it will tap on the expertise of its two waste water treatment companies to improve the plants.

ChemChina spent CNY800m last year to reduce coal, water and electricity consumption last year, using other companies as benchmarks, the spokesman said.

The company, which has over 100 subsidiaries in China, accumulated over CNY100bn worth of assets in 2007, he added.
