SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) has unveiled a new polyurethane (PU) system house in Guangzhou, China to better deal with the specific demands of the region, the German speciality chemicals company said on Thursday.

Baysystems Southchina, BMS’ second system house in China, will begin operations by the end of 2008, the company said in a statement.

It will be equipped with research and testing facilities to fulfil the needs of industries such as furniture, automotive and construction, BMS added.

“We see a strong demand for PU in the Asia market - currently growing at approximately 6% a year - of which China is undergoing the quickest growth,” said Azita Owlia, head of marketing at BMS’ Asia Pacific PU unit.

“In southern China, the growth of the manufacturing industry is showing particularly dynamic growth, and with this, strong demand for customised PU products and solutions,” she said.

BaySystems SouthChina is the latest addition to Bayer MaterialScience’s growing network of systems houses in the Asia Pacific, which includes Nanjing in China, Japan, Taiwan, India and Thailand.
