SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China’s Jiangbei Chemical has shut down its 150,000 tonne/year urea unit in Chongqing for regular maintenance, a company source said on Thursday.

“We expect to complete the turnaround within 10 days during which we continue to sell on storage,” he said.

Meanwhile, the price of urea from Jiangbei Chemical currently stood at yuan (CNY) 1,800-1,820/tonne ($247.9-250.7/tonne) EXW ex-works. Most regions in China were at the same level.

The post-holiday market in China after the New Year holidays remained sluggish with many traders and converters sidelined ahead of the upcoming Spring Festival, said traders, adding buyers would re-enter the market after the Lunar New Year.

“The market is expected to revive in February as spring is the usage season for urea,” said one trader.
