LONDON (ICIS news)--Petrobras has started full operations at its base oils plant at the Duque de Caxias refinery in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, effective this week, a company source said on Thursday.

The 650,000 tonne/year plant was originally scheduled to be down for one month from mid-October, but a series of delays and technical adjustments meant that restart was postponed.

The source added that while its supply position was now more comfortable, the company did not expect to resume exports of brightstock material for a further two months.

Duque de Caxias is the largest base oil plant in Latin America and one of the largest globally.

Petrobras also has base oil production facilities at Fortaleza and Mataripe in Brazil and Cochabamba, Bolivia.
