TOKYO (ICIS news)--Hitachi Zosen Corp and Toyo-Thai Corp have respectively been awarded offshore and onshore work by Thai MMA Co for the construction of its second methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomer unit in Mab Ta Phut in Thailand, a spokesman from the Japanese shipbuilder said on Friday.
The delivery of the 90,000 tonnes/year MMA plant in Rayong province is scheduled for 31 December 2009, according to the Hitachi Zosen spokesman, who declined from disclosing the prices of the contracts.
Thai MMA, a joint venture of Japanese chemical producer Mitsubishi Rayon Co (MRC) and Thailand’s Siam Cement, plans to build the MMA unit and a 20,000 tonne/year facility producing continuous cast sheets for a total of yen 25bn-30bn ($229m-275m).
The second MMA plant was scheduled to start commercial operation by June 2010 and the continuous cast sheet unit by the end of 2009, an MRC spokesman earlier told ICIS news.
Hitachi Zosen would be in charge of engineering and procurement from outside of ?xml:namespace>
