LONDON (ICIS news)--Train driver’s union Gewerkschaft Deutscher Lofuhrer (GDL) and rail carrier Deutsche Bahn (DB) have reached an agreement over contracts and there will be no further strikes, the union said late on Sunday.
The carrier has agreed to make a one off payment of €800 ($1177) and to raise wages by 8% from March 2008 - these will be further increased by 3% in September 2008, the union said in a statement.
The DB has also agreed to cut the workers week to 40 hours, the union added.
The agreement has averted further strike action – workers held strikes in November, which crippled the network and caused logistical problems for the industry.
