LONDON (ICIS news)--Lanxess will close down its ion exchange resins plant in Birmingham, New Jersey, causing the loss of 90 jobs, the German specialty chemicals company said on Wednesday.

“With its restricted production capability, the site…has only limited suitability for serving the rapidly changing ion exchange market of the future,” said Lanxess board member Rainier van Roessel.

Employees at the site would not be located to other Lanxess facilities in the US when the site closes in May, added a press Lanxess spokesman.

The site is run by the group subsidiary Lanxess Sybron Chemicals, producing Lanxess’s Lewatit and Ionac brands with applications in the water treatment and food industries.
