SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--National Petrochemical Co of Iran’s 1m tonne/year methanol unit in Fanavaran, Bandar Imam, continues to be shut and there is no clear indication about the restart date, a company source said on Thursday.

The plant had shut on 28 December following gas supply shortage amid the ongoing winter season.

Iran is suffering its harshest winter in 17 years and natural gas supply is tight, added the source.

The other 1.65 m tonne/year Zagross methanol facility had also reduced operating rates to around 70%, the source said.

However, the outage has not had an impact on the company’s contract shipments, said the source.
