HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Total Petrochemicals USA told Texas regulators on Monday that it has commenced maintenance work at its 240,000 bbl/day Port Arthur refinery that would run through 8 March.
In a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), Total listed 11 sources of emissions that it said would be "associated with unit turnaround and inspection", including two flaring towers.
The filing did not give an explicit description of the extent of the turnaround.
Rick Hagar, a spokesman for Total, said that the company would not comment on its maintenance plans beyond the contents of the TCEQ filing.
The filing did not mention any impact on the joint venture BASF FINA Petrochemicals plant adjacent to the Port Arthur refinery.
That plant, which has what Total calls one of the largest naphtha steam crackers in the world, is operated by 60% owner BASF. Total owns the remaining 40%.
The plant has the capacity to produce 1.8bn lb/year (816,000 tonnes/year) of ethylene and 1.9bn lb/year of propylene. For the latest chemical news, data and analysis that directly impacts your business sign up for a free trial to ICIS news - the breaking online news service for the global chemical industry.
