SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Philippines-based refiner Petron Corp has issued a tender to sell propylene from its new fluid catalytic cracker (FCC) unit in Bataan starting from March, said market participants on Wednesday.

The company’s new FCC, which was upgraded from its old thermal cracking unit, would be able to produce 140,000 tonnes/year of polymer grade propylene.

The unit was scheduled to be started up in February and material would be expected to be available from March, said a source from the company.

The sell tender was for six months, with 10,000-12,000 tonnes of material available each month. The tender would be closed today with the bids valid until Friday, said a trader.

Several traders as well as local polypropylene (PP) makers were heard to be interested in bidding for the material.

The Philippines is net short of propylene and its PP makers, JG Summit and Phoenix PP, which need to import feedstocks.
