HOUSTON (ICIS news)--This year’s Informex USA custom manufacturers’ trade show at New Orleans is aimed at attracting a broader base of specialty chemicals participants, its events director said on Monday, with talks on subjects such as green chemistry, China business opportunities and chemical process scale-ups.

“We have focused our marketing efforts on the specialty businesses,” said events coordinator Jennifer Jessup. “We have a strong pharma base and we want to bring in other chemical markets.”

CMP Information, the owner of the Informex show, is pushing for well over 4,000 attendees at the New Orleans event and expects a record number of exhibitors, with more than 500 companies to show off their technologies and products.

“We have had a jump in agricultural chemicals [players] and are also looking at electronics chemicals, food ingredients, plastics and coatings,” Jessup said.

The show returns to New Orleans this week following an absence in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

New Orleans has been the “spiritual home” of Informex, Jessup said, as the city has hosted the event for roughly 15 out of the past 20 years.

The event will mark the first in New Orleans since the show was acquired by CMP from the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA) in 2005.

The show, which runs from Tuesday through Friday, will also include the 1st Annual Informex Gala dinner on Wednesday, featuring former US Secretary of State Colin Powell as the speaker. The dinner is expected to draw more than 700 people, Jessup said.
