NEW ORLEANS (ICIS news)--Construction is proceeding on a 16,000 tonne pharmaceutical-grade tetrahydrofuran (THF) plant at International Specialty Products' (ISP) site in Marl, Germany, the US company said at the Informex USA trade show, which began on Tuesday.
“The addition of this new plant will nearly double the company’s total pharma-grade THF capacity - currently 20,000 tonnes - which is produced at the existing production plant at the Marl site,” the company said in a statement.
Production at the new plant was expected to begin at the end of 2008, ISP said.
The company did not disclose the cost of the expansion.
THF is used as a reaction and extraction solvent in the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients.
