PARIS (ICIS news)--Wednesday's agreement between chemical trade group Union des Industries Chimiques (UIC) and trade unions will lead to an industry-wide 2.33% rise of basic salaries and bonuses from 1 February, said UIC on Thursday.

The increase took into account the high rate of inflation in 2007 and forecast price rises this year, it added.

As part of the agreement, there would be a possible further meeting with unions in the third quarter to reassess price trends and a review of the commitment made in July on professional equality between men and women, UIC said.

A recent UIC survey found the gross mean annual salary in the chemical industry of €40,179 was 15-20% higher than the average French worker received.
