LONDON (ICIS news)--Spain-based Cepsa plans to close one of its benzene units in Huelva, Spain during a catalyst change at the plant, a company source said on Thursday.

“We have a catalyst change for 21 days in February which will only effect one of our benzene units,” the source said.

Cepsa produces a total of 400,000 tonnes/year of benzene at the Huelva site and 245,000 tonnes/year at Algerciras, also in southern Spain, according to ICIS plants and projects.

Cepsa's planned outage comes ahead of other benzene outages scheduled in Europe during the first and second quarters this year.

BASF, ConocoPhillips, Dow and ExxonMobil are all reported to have scheduled benzene turnarounds in the coming months, the exact dates of which have not been confirmed.
