HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Dow Chemical said on Tuesday that its St. Charles olefins II cracker in Louisiana would be down for two weeks while repairs are made on a safety flare at the site.

The outage represents about 40% of its total olefins capacity in St. Charles, a Dow official said.

Dow’s capacity at the site is 1m tonnes (2.2bn lb)/year.

The company confirmed local media reports that said the problem had been initially identified on Saturday.

Dow said the shutdown was expected to have minimal impact on downstream businesses and production.
