HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US exports of polypropylene (PP) in 2007 were 1,998,633 tonnes, up by 28% over 2006, according to data released on Thursday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

US PP exports rose for most destinations in 2007, but shipments to Canada declined by 1% this year compared with 2006.

Volume-wise, Mexico, Canada and China remained the primary recipients of PP from the US, but there was significant growth in exports to Turkey, Peru, Brazil and Nigeria.

The rise in PP exports to Brazil in 2007 was significant because Brazil is an exporting country. A declining dollar and increased demand in emerging markets were seen as the main reasons for the increase in PP exports.

The table below shows a summary of PP export statistics.
