US 2007 MTBE exports fall 9.1% from 2006

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US exports of the gasoline additive methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) were down 9.1% in 2007 from 2006, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) said on Thursday.

Total exports from the US in 2007 were 2.2m tonnes, down from 2.4m tonnes in 2006.

Mexico was the top export destination for US produced MTBE in 2007 at 769,000 tonnes. The amount of gasoline additive shipped to Mexico in the 2007 was 16% higher than 2006.

Venezuela was the second highest importer of US MTBE, at 696,000 tonnes. Venezuela received 848,000 tonnes in 2006.

France was the third largest importer of US MTBE in 2007, at 303,000 tonnes.
