HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US exports of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) jumped 25% to more than 1m tonnes in 2007, according to a federal agency on Thursday - a situation that trade sources said stemmed from higher overseas demand.

The increase in export numbers reported by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) were also the result of the weaker US dollar and the lacklustre US housing market, according to trade sources

Exports in December 2007 were 103,168 tonnes, up 29% from the 80,062 tonnes exported in the same month on year earlier, the ITC said.

December exports were also up 4% from the 99,563 tonnes shipped in November, the ITC said.

Canada received 36% of all US PVC exports in 2007 and was the top export destination for the year, followed by Egypt, China and Turkey, the ITC said.
