SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--MTBE Malaysia, a wholly owned subsidiary of Malaysian oil and chemicals giant Petronas, will shut its plant on 26 March for a routine turnaround, said a company source on Friday.

The 300,000 tonne/year methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) plant in Gebeng, east Malaysia, would be shut for about a month, the source added.

The company was building up its inventory to continue supplying contracted volumes, although no spot supply would be available, he added.

Asian MTBE prices hovered around $900/tonne FOB (free on board) Singapore in the past few weeks on the back of high crude and gasoline values.
