SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--The Taiwan contract price for January purified terephthalic acid (PTA) was settled $10-20/tonne higher than December due to improved demand and producers’ price discipline, buyers and sellers said on Tuesday.

“We managed to sell the majority of our volumes at an increase of $20/tonne compared with December,” said a source from one of the leading producers on the island, confirming the settlement at $860-870/tonne DEL (delivered).

An official from another producer said that demand among end-users in Taiwan had been strong and since “[producers] maintained price discipline and refused to sell below $860/tonne in general, we managed to push for an increase from the previous month”.

The December price was $850/tonne DEL.

Taiwan PTA producers include China American Petrochemical Co and Tuntex Petrochemical.
