TOKYO (ICIS news)--Japan’s production of man-made fibres in January fell 6.8% year on year partly due to high feedstock costs, a spokesman from a local industry association said on Wednesday.
There was also a trend among producers to reduce man-made fibre production because of the elevated prices of raw materials, the spokesman from Japan Chemical Fibers Association added.
The country produced a total of 96,355 tonnes of man-made fibres in January, down from the same time a year earlier, according to the association.
Of the total production of man-made fibres, 83,042 tonnes were synthetic fibres, down 6.8% from the previous year, it said.
