HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Bayer’s chlor-alkali plant in Baytown, Texas, was said by sources at two other producers on Friday to have entered an unscheduled turnaround for maintenance.

Confirmation from Bayer’s US headquarters in Pittsburgh was not immediately available.

The exact cause and estimated duration of the plant outage were unknown, but the market participants said they believed the plant has been shut down since last week.

Bayer’s Baytown chlor-alkali plant produces about 305,000 tonnes/year of chlorine and about 345,000 tonnes/year of caustic soda.
