LONDON (ICIS news)--UOP is in talks for further methanol-to-olefins (MTO) projects in China, the Middle East and North Africa, the US technology company said.

The Honeywell division was looking at coal-based MTO plants in China and was holding discussions with about five different companies.

“These are large complex projects in terms of financing and putting together consortia,” said James D’Auria, business director of petrochemicals for UOP Process, Technology & Equipment.

He expected that most of the projects would be developed in a similar timeframe to the Eurochem MTO project in Nigeria which is due on stream in 2012.

Early discussions are also under way for another three projects in the Middle East and North Africa, said UOP.
