Nippon Oil to turn around Marifu benzene in March

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Japan-based benzene major Nippon Oil will shut down its Marifu-based benzene unit from mid-March for one and a half months of scheduled maintenance, said a company source on Tuesday.

The 267,000 tonne/year unit was expected to resume production from the end of April, he said.

Following this, the company would shut down from mid-May one reformer at Mizushima for a month. No further details were available.

The company produces 425,000 tonnes/year of benzene at Mizushima.

Towards the end of May, Nippon Oil will shut down its entire facility at Sendai for maintenance.

The company produces 84,000 tonnes/year of crude benzene at the old reformer, while the new reformer produces 60,000 tonnes/year of benzene.

Nippon Oil has the largest nameplate capacity in Asia, with plants in six locations across Japan.
