SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--South Korea is yet to impose any preliminary anti dumping duties (ADD) on ethyl acetate imports from China, Singapore and Japan as investigations are still ongoing, a Korea Trade Commission official said on Thursday,

Market talk has it that preliminary duties pegged between 4.51% to 38% have been imposed on imports from China, Singapore and Japan, but the official said this was not true.

“Some companies had not responded to the dumping complaints and hence we need to conduct on-the-spot examination of these companies,” the KTC official said, adding that a definitive ruling would be made between May and August.

Some imports had been sold at around 15% below domestic prices and that prompted the sole local ethyl acetate producer, Korea Alcohol, to initiate anti-dumping investigations in July last year, local traders said.

Major ethyl acetate producers in Asia include Celanese, Showa Denko, Jiangsu Sopo and Korea Alcohol.

Ethyl acetate is used in various application sectors, including coatings, pharmaceuticals, printing inks, adhesives and cosmetics.
