SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Bisphenol-A (BPA) prices fell yuan (CNY) 200-300/tonne ($28.13-42.19/tonne) on weak demand from the downstream epoxy resin sector, traders and sellers said on Monday.

Values stood at CNY16,600-16,700/tonne EXW (ex-warehouse) in east China.

In addition, some traders said they were anxious to sell cargoes at lower prices on fund consideration, which also saw BPA prices slip further.

Downstream resumption was slower than last year after the seasonal holidays but market inventories were ample, traders said, adding the epoxy resin market would improve from mid-March.

Meanwhile, prices of another epoxy resin feedstock - epichlorohydrin (ECH) - increased CNY1,000/tonne to CNY16,000-16,500/tonne delivered east China from the pre-holiday level, hitting demand from epoxy resin producers, traders said.

Shanghai Bayer Group said it would halt BPA sales for around three days due to weak demand and low prices.

“Whether it recovers to sell or not later will depend on the situation of market supply and demand,” the company source added.
