BASF delays resumption of Antwerp styrene output

LONDON (ICIS news)--BASF do not expect a full return to production at their Antwerp, Belgium, styrene production facility until the second half of March following technical issues, a company source said on Monday.

 

“We expect the Antwerp plant to finally come back up in the second half of March,” the source said, adding the styrene market was increasingly tight.

 

The styrene outage was first reported on 17 December with BASF citing “unavoidable technical problems”, and later extended until the end of February.  

 

Market participants had seen the styrene market as increasingly tight as a result, with spot material valued at over $1,500/tonne (€990/tonne) FOB (free on board) Rotterdam in February despite a raft of imports.
