SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Japan-based Nippon Oil (NOC) has been operating its olefins conversion unit (OCU) at 50-60% capacity due to low propylene prices, a company source said on Tuesday.

"With propylene prices so low now, we have no plans to increase operation rates,” added the source.

The 150,000 tonne/year unit in Kawasaki had been operating at reduced rates since its restart at the end of February after a turnaround

The propylene output from the Kawasaki unit is sold on 100% contract basis.
