SINGAPORE (ICIS news)—Construction of the new aromatics plant at Oman, Aromatics Oman Ltd, was almost three-quarters underway by the end of February 2008, a company source said late on Wednesday.
The plant, located at Sohar port, would be commissioned in the second quarter of 2009. Commercial production would kick off from the fourth quarter of 2009, he added.
Refusing to comment on the capacity of the plant for each product, the source said the plant would produce a combined total of 1m tonnes of benzene and paraxylene (PX).
The company had earlier said the plant would be one of the world’s largest PX plants, producing 814,000 tonnes/year of PX, and 210,000 tonnes/year of benzene.
