SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Philippines-based refiner Petron Corp started up its new fluid catalytic cracker (FCC) unit in Bataan at the end of February as scheduled, said a company source on Thursday.

“We are still in the process of stabilising the FCC unit. When the FCC reaches stable operations, we will start up the propylene extraction unit,” said the source.

The company’s new FCC, which was upgraded from its old thermal cracking unit, would be able to produce 140,000 tonnes/year of polymer grade propylene.

The propylene, estimated at 10,000-12,000 tonnes/month to be supplied starting this month, had been sold via tender to a domestic end-user as well as a Japanese trader.
