LONDON (ICIS news)--European bisphenol-A (BPA) freely negotiated prices were mainly agreed at a rollover in March as higher feedstock costs in February were counter-balanced by good availability, market sources said on Friday.

The March price range was assessed unchanged from February, with values between €1,440-1,530/tonne ($2,215-2,354/tonne) FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe), according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.

A few sellers said they had passed on increases of €10-20/tonne for some accounts on the back of successively higher raw material costs, but there was no buyer confirmation to support this.

Numbers were reported either side of the range in a few cases, but they were not widely confirmed.

Downstream demand varied according to sector. Offtake in the epoxy resin industry was reported to be healthy, while consumption in the polycarbonate sector was slightly lower than expected, particularly for optical grade material.

BPA market participants include Bayer, Hexion, Valspar, Air Products and Mitsui. It is used as a feedstock in the production of epoxy resins, polycarbonate and polyols.
