SAN DIEGO, California (ICIS news)--The National Petrochemical Refiners Association (NPRA) said on Sunday it had no forecast on what energy prices, and most importantly retail gasoline prices, could do in the US this summer.

"We do not predict prices, said NPRA president Charles Drevna, who was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 106th NPRA Annual Meeting in San Diego, California.

"We are in the same boat as everybody else, so we can only control what it is that our member companies can do."

The current national average for regular grade retail gasoline is $3.215/gal, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). This rate is up from $2.529/gal a year ago.

The US state of Hawaii has the highest average of gasoline at $3.584/gal, followed by California at $3.563/gal, AAA said.

The increases in retail gasoline came after Friday’s NYMEX session, which saw WTI crude oil prices reach a record $106.54/bbl.

The 106th NPRA Annual Meeting runs from 9-11 March.
