SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s petrochemical output soared in 2007 from a year ago as new plants were brought on stream, statistics from the local association showed on Monday.

The country’s ethylene production jumped 26.9% to over 3.6m tonnes in 2007 from the previous year after Formosa Petrochemical brought its 1.2m tonne/year cracker – Asia’s largest – on stream in May last year, the Petrochemical Industry Association of Taiwan (PIAT) said.

Propylene and butadiene (BD) output also jumped 34.7% and 32.2% respectively during the same period.

Taiwan’s monoethylene glycol (MEG) production soared 33.7% last year from 2006 to nearly 1.8m tonnes after Nan Ya Plastics brought on stream a 700,000 tonne/year unit.
