Australia’s Penrice Soda may expand capacity

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Australian soda ash producer, Penrice Soda Holdings is conducting feasibility studies for a possible expansion of its soda ash plant in Osborne, southern Australia, said an executive from the company on Monday.

The executive declined to give the study’s date of completion but according to Australian media reports, it was likely to be concluded by mid-2008.

Penrice Soda concluded three contracts worth Australian dollars (A$) 22m ($20.37m) per year from December through February to supply soda ash to mining operations in Australia producing vanadium and nickel.

The company’s Osborne facility has an annual capacity of 380,000 tonnes of soda ash.
