US OSHA cracks down on refineries - report

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US regulators found 146 violations in 17 US refineries, the result of an investigation started in June, the Houston Chronicle reported on Monday.

The violations were uncovered by the National Emphasis Program, which is being conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the newspaper reported.

OSHA plans to investigate 64 more refineries in the next two years.

The administration had proposed $896,300 (€582,595) in fines connected to the findings, according to the Houston Chronicle.

OSHA is considering expanding the programme to include chemical plants, the newspaper reported.
