MOVES: NOVA names new olefins President

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--American plastic resins producer NOVA Chemicals has appointed Grant Thomson as president of its olefins and feedstocks business, the NYSE-listed firm said on Tuesday.

Thomson who is presently senior vice president, has over 20 years of experience in the petrochemical, plastics and energy industries and will now lead NOVA’s olefins and feedstock arm from the its Canadian office at Calgary.

Meanwhile, the current vice president Val Mirosh will take on the role of special adviser to the COO and will facilitate the growth of the firm’s olefins and polyolefins business in Alberta and Ontario, USA.

The company’s olefins and polyolefins arm recently reported a 126% surge in its fourth-quarter EBITDA to $308m from $136m year-on-year.

In February 2008, Jeff Lipton NOVA Chemicals’ chief executive said the firm foresaw improvements in the styrenics market due to consolidation, limited supply, and demand growth.
