HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US exports of acetic acid in January totalled 69,580 tonnes, down 20% from 87,042 tonnes a year earlier, the International Trade Commission reported Tuesday.
January exports were up 19% from 58,277 tonnes in December 2007. Mexico, Spain and Belgium continued as the top three destinations.
The export decline confirmed perceptions among market participants that relatively little acetic acid was leaving the US because of the high costs of transportation.
US Gulf Coast export prices have ranged from $860-$950/tonne over the past month, according to data from global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing. For more on acetic acid visit ICIS chemical intelligence
