TORONTO (ICIS news)--Eastman Chemical will expand capacity for its Tritan copolyester at Kingsport, Tennessee, to meet growing demand, the US producer said on Thursday.
The expansion, due to be completed by late 2009, included the construction of new manufacturing facilities and the conversion of some existing operations, the company said without disclosing capacity details or investment sums.
Eastman expected the global copolyester market to grow by up to 8% per year, it said.
“We are completing this expansion so that we can continue to grow with the market demand in the coming years," said Dante Rutstrom, Eastman vice president and general manager for specialty plastics.
Triton was used in making products such as housewares, appliances and extruded-sheets, Eastman said. The product was free of bisphenol-A (BPA), it added.
