SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Mitsui Chemicals, the smallest of the three isopropanol (IPA) producers in Japan, will shut down its 33,000 tonne/year plant in Osaka for a scheduled turnaround next month, a company official said on Friday.
"The plant will be shut for 16 days from 6 to 21 April," he said.
The official added that the company had scrapped plans to build a 60,000 tonne/year IPA plant in the eastern prefecture of Chiba, as most of its customers were based in the west of the country.
"We plan to build a new line in Osaka maybe in 2010 using acetone feedstock," he said, adding that the capacity of the unit was yet to be confirmed.
Nippon Oil and Tokuyama are Japan’s other two IPA producers.
