HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US February styrene monomer contracts were settled at an average increase of 2.75 cents/lb ($61/tonne) from January, according to market participants on Friday.

The settlement took styrene prices to 66.50-69.50 cents/lb FOB (free on board).

Styrene producers said they have settled February styrene contracts at increases of 3 cents/lb, while buyers said they settled contracts at increases of 2.5 cents/lb.

The increases were attributed to stronger feedstock prices in the benzene market.

Styrene producers have already said they were looking to raise March styrene contracts by another 6-9 cents/lb, based on recent strength in the feedstock benzene market.

Major US styrene producers include INEOS NOVA, Equistar, Cosmar, Dow Chemical and Chevron Phillips Chemical.
