HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Brazil’s thermoplastic resin consumption in January-February totalled 839,600 tonnes, a 23% increase from one year earlier, industry association Abiquim said on Monday.

Brazil’s resin production in January-February was 804,700 tonnes, a 4% increase on year, the association said, adding that imports rose by 61% to 171,000 tonnes in the same period.

In January-February, Brazil exported 136,100 tonnes of thermoplastic resins, a 31% drop from one year earlier, Abiquim said.

Abiquim did not cite a reason for the changes.

The association said figures refer to polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA).

Abiquim said data are preliminary because polyethylene terephthalate (PET) figures were not included.
