SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Qilu Petrochemical, a Sinopec subsidiary, is building a 100,000 tonne/year styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) unit which will come on stream at the end of 2008 or early next year, a company source said on Thursday.
The government approved at the end of last year the yuan (CNY) 600m ($85m) project in Zibo, Shandong province.
"After the new plant is brought into production, the total synthetic rubber capacity of Qilu Petrochemical will be 300,000 tonne/year," the source said in Mandarin, adding that Qilu will become a major player in the industry.
The company has a 40,000 tonne/year butadiene rubber (BR) unit and a 130,000 tonne/year SBR plant.
